2009 Learning Objectives

1. Students should know what biodiversity means.

2. They should know how soils, forestry, wildlife and aquatics are affected by biodiversity.

3. They should know when some event happens, which affects our natural world, how it will affect biodiversity. Example—Building a dam, a wildfire, an oil spill, cutting a forest, etc.

4. They should know the definition of species, genetic and ecosystem biodiversity.

5. They should know the main causes of biodiversity loss and some solutions to solving these losses.

6. They should know the benefits that we get from biodiversity.

7. They should be familiar with some of the main alien species and some of the problems that they are causing.

8. They should know how small streams play a big role in maintaining species biodiversity.

9. They should know how natural changes in our environment affect the biodiversity of our world. Ex. Too much rain, drought, too hot, too cold, etc.

10. They should be familiar what happens when an ecosystem collapses and what can be the result of several ecosystems collapsing.

11. Why is plant conservation so important?

12. Where do most of our medicines come from?

13. How can biodiversity help our food supply?

14. How does pollutants affect our water/streams?

15. They should be familiar with the number of extinction periods that we have had in the past and what caused them.

16. They should be familiar with climate change and how it is or may be affecting our biodiversity.
