A Team Buddy is a non-biased chaperone that accompanies an Envirothon team during oral presentation preparation. The assignment of Team Buddies to Envirothon teams is the responsibility of the State/Provincial Envirothon Committee. A Team Buddy should not be assigned a team from his/her own area.
Suggested responsibilities for Team Buddies include:

Accompanying his/her assigned team to their assigned work area and to and from any other reference area sites.

Remaining with his/her team at all times, except when retrieving and delivering snack food or drinks.

Upholding the following rules and regulations:
- Students may not make or receive phone calls during the presentation preparation period.
- Teams may not have any contact with their Volunteer Advisor(s) during the presentation preparation time period.
- Teams may only use the materials provided by the State/Provincial Envirothon Committee to make visual aids.
- Teams may bring and use hard copy reference and research materials (e.g., brochures, books, pamphlets, notes, etc.) but may not use computers.
- Presentation notes should be printed on 3 x 5" note cards provided by the State/Provincial Envirothon Committee.
- Students may not make or receive phone calls during the presentation preparation period.
- Assisting ONLY with timing practice presentations.

Team Buddies should neither comment on the quality of the presentation nor offer any other assistance relative to the subject area content, grammar, spelling, or presentation style. He/She is not permitted to interpret data/rules or in any way assist team members with the preparation of the presentation.

Monitoring the time and providing warnings to help his/her team budget their time.

Ensuring all visual aids, notes, and provided materials are collected at the conclusion of the allotted presentation preparation period.

Accompanying his/her team as they return their presentation/visual aid materials to the designated area, where all materials will be secured and his/her team will meet with their Volunteer Advisors.
