The following information and steps outline suggestions for organizing and conducting the oral presentation component at your State/Provincial Envirothon.
Staff preparations prior to the Envirothon:
STEP 1 - Write a draft presentation scenario. States/provinces may want to elect a topic that relates to the current environmental issue determined for that year's Canon Envirothon.
STEP 2 - Solicit feedback from appropriate experts in the field and finalize the presentation scenario.
STEP 3 - Line up an appropriate number of judges. If (for example) 3 judges are required, select two (2) with expertise in the topic presented in the presentation scenario and one (1) with expertise in the field of communications (e.g., speech, debate, etc.). See Judging Information & Resources.
STEP 4 - Forward all necessary information to participating judges. See Judging Information & Resources.
STEP 5 - Identify the area(s) at the competition site/host facility where student teams will be able to work on preparing for their presentations. Keep in mind that relative privacy will be required.
STEP 6 -Identify rooms for presentations at the competition site/host facility.
STEP 7 - Arrange for video taping of presentations and, if possible, "simulcast" to a remote viewing room for Volunteer Advisors and guests.
STEP 8 - Recruit volunteers to serve as Team Buddies for the oral presentation preparation period and assign them to the appropriate teams. Inform Team Buddy volunteers of their roles, expectations, and responsibilities. See guidelines for Team Buddies.
STEP 9 - Determine and obtain materials to be provided to each team (i.e., visual aid supplies such as markers, note cards, overhead transparencies, paper, etc.) and decide on a method for easy distribution and collection at the competition.
STEP 10 - Create a time table for presentations.
